When I was younger, I focused on five key areas: making life multiplanetary, accelerating the transition to sustainable energy, the internet, genetics, and artificial intelligence.

Initially, I thought I would start by helping with the electrification of cars, which is what I worked on as an intern, focusing on advanced ultra-capacitors for energy storage in vehicles.

I decided to start an internet company in 1995 instead of pursuing a PhD at Stanford because I wanted to be part of the technological advancements happening at that time.

I aimed to be useful and focused on what I could do that would have a practical impact on the world.
