Every donation to Watsi brings us closer to a future where helping others is a natural impulse, and I encourage everyone to find meaningful work that excites them, rather than just seeking solutions for problems that don't resonate personally.

In the early days of Watsi, we decided that 100% of every donation would fund healthcare, we would be the most transparent organization, and we would treat everyone with respect and dignity. On August 23, 2010, we launched Watsi after a year and a half of preparation, and our initial goal was to fund healthcare for 10 patients in the first six months. We achieved that goal within the first couple of hours after launch.

I realized that while non-profits are crucial for addressing certain problems, the most pressing issues in the world were being solved too slowly, which led me to start Watsi.

The breakthroughs from our work will take decades to fully realize, but we will be reaping the rewards for centuries to come.

After returning home, I recruited my best friends to help build Watsi, and we spent our last months in the Peace Corps working on the business plan.

We aim to build an organization that can last for 100 years, focusing on the right founding team and culture.
